"Fusion installed our complete system (panels, inverter, batteries and an EV charger) a few months ago. James and his team did a first-rate job and were happy to coordinate with our builder, who was extending the house at the time. I'd recommend them without hesitation."

FAQs

What our clients are asking

How much can I really save with solar panels and a battery?

Honestly, it depends on your home, which is why we’d rather work it out properly than quote you a generic figure. Most homes make a real dent in the electricity they buy from the grid once solar and battery storage work together, but the exact saving comes down to your roof size and direction, how much energy you use, and your current tariff. Our free survey gives you a personalised estimate based on your actual property, and one of our design consultants talks you through it on a short call so you know precisely what to expect before deciding anything.

Will my home be suitable for solar panels and a battery?

In most cases, yes. Suitability comes down to your roof direction, any shading through the day, and having a sensible spot for the battery, and the majority of UK homes tick those boxes comfortably. Where a roof is more challenging, that happens to be exactly what we’re built for, because we’re both solar installers and re-roofers, so we can advise on the roof itself as well as the panels. During our free survey we check all of this properly and design a system around your home rather than pushing a one size fits all package.

Do I need planning permission for solar panels or a battery?

Usually not. For most houses in England, Scotland and Wales, solar panels and battery storage are classed as permitted development, so planning permission isn’t normally required. There are exceptions, such as listed buildings, some flats, and homes in conservation areas or areas of outstanding natural beauty, where different rules can apply. We’ll flag anything relevant to your property during the survey, so there are no surprises later on.

Do I still get paid for exporting electricity back to the grid?

Yes. Through the Smart Export Guarantee (SEG), your energy supplier pays you for any surplus electricity you send back to the grid, and that still applies when you have a battery. In practice, a battery means you store more of your own power to use later, so you export a little less but buy a lot less too, and we’ll help you weigh up the balance that suits how you actually use energy.

Is there any VAT or finance available?

At the moment, solar panels and battery storage are zero-rated for VAT on most UK homes, which helps keep the upfront cost down. We also work with finance providers, so if you’d rather spread the cost than pay outright, that option is there. We’ll go through what applies to your situation on your call, with no pressure either way.

What Is Solar & Battery Storage?

Solar PV panels turn sunlight into free electricity for your home. A home battery then stores that electricity so you can use it whenever you need it, at night, on cloudy days, or when grid prices are at their highest. Together they let you make and keep your own power, cut your bills, and protect yourself against rising energy costs.

Instead of buying most of your electricity from the grid, you’re using your own clean energy around the clock. That means lower bills, more control over what you pay, and a smaller carbon footprint, all while adding value to your home.

Better still, domestic solar and battery systems are currently zero-rated for VAT in the UK, and flexible finance options can help spread the cost. You can also add backup power, from key circuits to your whole home, so the lights stay on during a power cut, all managed from one easy-to-use app.

Who we are

Empowering tomorrow, today

Fusion Solar UK is a Sheffield-based solar PV, battery storage and EV charger installation company, working with homeowners and businesses right across the UK.

Led by our founder James Muse, we bring a decade-long track record of excellence in renewable energy, and we’ve grown largely through word of mouth and recommendation, backed by a 5 out of 5 rating on Trustpilot and a reputation for neat workmanship, honest advice and proper long-term aftercare. What sets us apart is that we’re expert installers and re-roofers, so we look after the roof itself as well as the solar on top of it, something most national firms simply can’t offer. Our work spans everything from family homes to large commercial sites, including gin distilleries, chicken farms and waste recycling plants.

We design and install bespoke solar and battery systems, including retrofits to homes that already have panels, handle all the grid paperwork for you, and give fixed, transparent quotes with no surprises. On install day we keep things tidy, set up your monitoring apps before we leave, and provide ongoing support so cutting your bills and adding backup power feels genuinely simple and stress-free.
